Report: Battie to seek second opinion on shoulder
September 28, 2007
ORLANDO (TICKER) -- Tony Battie will seek a second opinion on his injured left shoulder before it is determined if he will miss a significant amount of time, the Orlando Sentinel reported Friday on its web site.
Diagnosed with a partial tear to his rotator cuff last week, the Orlando Magic forward reportedly sought another opinion at Duke University Medical Center this week. But the Magic are still awaiting the results, the newspaper reported.
"We're not sure yet," Orlando general manager Otis Smith told the newspaper late Thursday afternoon. "It would be premature for me to say anything more. I don't know if Tony's down for long or not."
It is unknown exactly when Battie was injured, according to Smith in the report.
"Something kind of happened one day when he was working out," he said.
It has been an injury-plagued time in Orlando for Battie, who missed 16 games last season with a fractured right thumb. But the 6-11, 240-pounder was a solid contributor with the Magic last season, averaging 6.1 points and 5.2 rebounds.
The 31-year-old Battie's injury would be a big blow to Orlando's frontcourt, which lost Darko Milicic to free agency in the offseason.
