Passport allegation on Wesson - Nov 15, 2009
KZell Wesson (201-F/C-77, college: La Salle), very well known player in European basketball who spent years in France, Italy, Germany, Greece and Turkey. Experienced big man who is currently playing for Pinar Karsiyaka as a bosman, thanks to his passport from Bulgaria, faced an allegation published by Haberturk daily newspaper. Due tot the news at Haberturk, the Bulgarion passport which belongs to Wesson is fake as Pinar Karsiyaka and Turkish Basketball Federation issued this license only with a photo-copy of the passport which was not enrolled by Bulgarian government. Due to the transfer rules in Turkey, each team can sign 6 foreigners as only 3 of these is allowed to be from another continent else the Europe. Haberturk also wrote that Wesson, could not get his passport from Bulgarian government because of not paying 40.000 Euro's fee and could not finish his transfer to Spanish team Murcia and missed the chance to earn 300.000 Euro's, then accepted the 20.000 USD per month offer from Turkish team. Anyway, Pinar Karsiyaka side showed the Bulgarian passport of Wesson to media after the victory over Banvitspor. It's been written as the passport sissued on 07.08.2008 by Bulgarian government and everything is legal. The allegation of Haberturk looks like being rejected, but this issue brought up the fact that the passport's are being given to American's easily from some countries and creates double standard. Also, the transfer rules which obligates the club's to sign with a European player after three American signing should be questioned. Darius Washington of Galatasaray Cafe Crown and Kevin Flecer of Besiktas Cola Turka are the American's who holds FYR Macedonia passports. It has been rumoured that Kzell Wesson had an invitation from Bulgarian Basketball Federation to play for their national team as naturalized to be prepared. Somehow, Wesson refused to play for Bulgarian NT and forced to pay 40.000 Euro to receive his document.
