NBA names Yao Ming as Western Conference Player of the Week

"The league is definitely taking notice of the improvement of Yao Ming.

The NBA named Yao the Western Conference Player of the Week on Monday, with the East nod going to Washington guard Gilbert Arenas.

Yao posted some big numbers last week, averaging 26.7 points and 15.7 boards on over 55% shooting in wins over the Clippers, Warriors and Magic.

Particularly impressive was the play of Yao against the Warriors, with Tracy McGrady not in action. Despite not having his best shooting night, Yao dominated the glass, snaring 21 rebounds.

In the 13 games since returning from a toe injury, Yao is leading the Rockets in scoring -- ahead of McGrady -- at 20.8 points on 50.7% shooting and 10.6 boards. The Rockets are 10-3 in those games."

McGradyn vaikeuksien aikana Yao on kyllä pitänyt joukkuetta loistavasti pystyssä, mutta toivotaan nyt, että T-Mac palaa entiselle tasolleen ja vaikeudet ovat taakse jäänyttä elämää.

"I talked to him about (that) we need to pick up a point guard, and also he had an opportunity out there to go and I think play for Denver," Van Gundy said. "We talked about it. I think he decided it was not something he was interested in doing. We told him we were going to waive him. He decided I think to retire. I hope something works out to where he can stay in the Rockets organization. He's a great guy. Even though we were only together for a little more than a year, I was as fond of him and (Bob) Sura as any two guys I've ever coached. Personally, it hurts a lot that both had injuries that impacted them and us."

After scoring 18 points on 7-of-18 shooting, McGrady walked gingerly to the locker room with 1:11 left in the third quarter and did not return. The Rockets have gone 1-13 without their All-Star in the lineup this season.

Katoin ton GSW-Houston pelin ja ei voi kun ihmetellä miten vähän palloa pelataan Yaolle. Jos itse saisin päättää miten Houston pyörittäisi peliä Tracyn ollessa poissa syöttäisin pallon joka hyökkäyksessä Yaolle. Lähes joka kerta kun hänelle syötettiin syntyi hyviä tilanteita joko Yaolle itselleen tai kolmosen viivalle johtuen tuplauksesta.

Katselin tuossa tilastoja ja huomasin, että Yao on tällä hetkellä ainoa sentteri NBA:ssa jonka keskiarvot 20/10. Ja Rocketsien viimeisten 16 pelin aikana, joista Rockets on voittanut 12, Yao on tehnyt 24/12 tilastot.
Lakers porskuttaa enää kahden voiton päässä, Dynasty pidä kiinni hatustasi, tie on vahattu raketeille!!!

Uskon että jos ja kun raketit pääsevät pleijareihin niin Mcgrady pelaisi pienestä selkäkivusta huolimatta vaikka voikohan sitä nyt pieneksi sanoa ??? Toivotaan että pahemmin ei Mc sitä selkäänsä taas loukannut..

“Well, Jay-Z is my favorite. He’s in all the rotations.”

“That’s a great question. I would probably just chill and watch some of my favorite comedy movies. Harlem Nights, Friday, Friday After Next, I love movies like that.”

Rockets nappasi "JO" kauden toisen voittonsa ilman McGradya joka oli sivussa yllätys yllätys selkävaivojen takia. Kg ja kumppanit taipuivat parempiensa edessä 93-87.
Heittopeli oli molemmilta aika luokatonta, kumpikin heitti alle 40%. Yao dominoi jälleen hyökkäyspäätä tehden 30 pistettä ja mikä parasta menetyksiä kertyi 0. Levarit vietiin mukavasti 54-43, vaikka Garnett veikin 21 irtopalloa.

What we're seeing right now from Yao Ming is downright scary -- for his opponents. The big fella continued his epic tear Wednesday night, hitting 14-21 shots for 38 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocked shots as the Rockets came from 17 down late in the third quarter to stun the Pacers 103-99. The Rockets were all heart down the stretch, tightening the defense and holding the Pacers to just 11 in the final frame. Rafer Alston handed out 14 assists while Juwan Howard (16 points) and Keith Bogans (14) came up big as well. However it wasn't all roses: Tracy McGrady returned to action for this game, scoring 15, but he left and didn't return in the third quarter when his back flared up yet again. -ClutchFans.com

Houstonin peli näyttää tällä hetkellä ihan hyvältä, mutta pleijareihin on vielä matkaa. Jos Houston saa T-Macin täyteen kuntoon niin se joukkue joka saa Houstonin vastaan ekalla kierroksella ei varmasti ole tyytyväinen

HOUSTON -- Houston Rockets star Tracy McGrady could miss up to five weeks with another back injury.


The 6-foot-8 McGrady has been sidelined with back problems three different times this season and missed a total of 15 games. The Rockets are 2-13 without McGrady, their leading scorer.



McGrady was examined on Friday in Los Angeles by renowned back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins. His latest injury is not a recurrence of the chronic problems that have bothered him since November, Watkins said, but the result of a fall McGrady took in the Rockets' 102-84 win over Portland on March 5.



McGrady scored 18 points, then left the game late in the third quarter.



He sat out the Rockets' 93-87 win over Minnesota on Tuesday, then left in the third quarter of Wednesday's 103-99 victory over Indiana when his back started hurting again.



McGrady scored 15 points, but said after the game he wasn't optimistic about a quick return.



"It's frustrating," McGrady said. "I've been dealing with it all season. It's the same old issue I've been dealing with."



The Rockets said McGrady's condition will be closely monitored over the weekend by the team's medical staff at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center in Houston.



The Rockets are three games behind the Los Angeles Lakers in the race for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. They've won four in a row and 10 of their last 13, but their next eight opponents have winning records, starting with Sunday's game at San Antonio.

Alkaa oikeasti olla sellainen "mitäs minä sanoinkaan..." -fiilis päällä. Antaisivat nyt kaverin saada selän kuntoon kesän aikana, ennen sitä turha palata kentille. Suomalaisena voi hakea melko simppelinkin esimerkin, Teemu Selänteen. Polven ei koskaan annettu kuntoutua loppuun ennen työsulkua. Työsulun aikana Selänne sitten keskittyikin kuntouttamaan polvea ja eiköhän tulos ole näkyvissä. Tietenkään Mäkkärillä ei ole kokonaista vuotta käytettävissä, mutta aikaa pitäisi antaa kuitenkin. Tämä kausi on anyway lähes paketissa Houstonin osalta. Antakoot Yao saada lisää itseluottamusta ja kokemusta johtamisesta hyvien peliotteiden kautta.

Se ei vaan ole ihan noin yksinkertaista, mm. lipputulot pienenee kun joukkueen leaderi ei pelaa, ja sekös jos mikä on joukkueen johtohahmojen päällimmäisinä mietteinä, joten T-mac tulee takas luultavasti heti kun on pelikunnossa tyyliin, buranaa poskeen ja kentälle.

Kyllä se Yaokin sinne Toyota Centeriin porukkaa tuo. Ehkä enemmän kuin koskaan (siis Yaon osalta), sillä Gentle Giant on viemässä Raketit pleijareihin noilla otteilla. T-Mac voisi vaikka säästellä mahdollisiin pleijareihin asti, jolloin hänkin voisi jälleen loistaa.

Houstonin playofftoivot ovat tällä hetkellä minimaaliset.20 peliä jäljellä,ja niistä pitäisi ottaa ainakin se 13-7 tai jopa 15-5 rekordi,ja samaan aikaan Sacton,Lakersin,NO:n ja Utahin pitäisi pelata .500,jotta irtoaisi 8.sija,eikä loppuohjelma ole mikään helppo.

15-5 ei ole todellakaan mahdoton ajatus. Yaon nälkä on kyltymätön, lännen finaalissa onkin Lakers ja Houston
