Reporter: I noticed that the Rockets players have a common characteristics. Even though in the league, the Iverson-like Corn Row or the Ben Wallace-like Flo is very popular, none of the Rockets players have followed the fashion trend. Not even the joining of Stromile Swift or Derek Anderson is going to change this phenomenum. So did Jeff Van Gundy forbid this ?
T-Mac: (Laughing) Nop, Jeff Van Gundy never has passed that restriction. Although he is very strict, he never interfere our private life. This has to do with our individual style and taste. Personally think these hair styles certainly do not suit the individuality of the Rockets players.
Reporter: Last season, you once said if the Rockets managed to get into second round (of the playoff), then everyone on the team will shave his head. Do you think you guys can realize that wish next season ?
T-Mac: Hey, let's wait and see. When it happens, you guys (Sports World.MVP) certainly must do a special report on it, with special attention to Yao Ming. I can't imagine what he will look like with his head shaved. I really look forward to that moment very much.
Reporter: So at the moment, whose hair style on the Rockets is the coolest ?? If you need it, I'll give you 4 choices: 1. T-Mac, 2. Yao Ming, 3. Jeff Van Gundy, 4. Jon Barry. (Tmac laughed his *** off when he heard the name of Van Gundy)
T-Mac: (trying hard to refrain from laughing)That is a very difficult question. I think Jeff Van Gundy has the coolest hair style. He is the coolest guy on our team.
Reporter: We never saw JVG smile on TV. Is he also like this during team training ?
T-Mac: Yeah, I nearly don't know how he looks like when he smiles. (T-Mac tried to mimic the serious looks of JVG)
Reporter: What do you think about Jeff Van Gundy as a person?
T-Mac: He is a well-respected coach. The reason why he looks so serious is that he is so involved and obsessed with his work. In the Rockets, he is well known as a workaholic.
Reporter: You mentioned earlier, that your most unforgetable highlight last season was the dunk over "Bamboo pole" Shawn Bradley while playing Dallas Mavericks. Why that dunk left such vivid memory ? Was it because Shawn Bradley is NBA's tallest guy ?
T-Mac: You have to understand to be able to dunk in high-density competitive NBA games is a rousing matter; And it is more exciting to be able to dunk on players much taller than you. I am all psyched up whenever I am able to do so. Of course, more importantly, such dunks could boost the morale of the team. After that dunk of mine, everyone on the team were psyched up. This was why that dunk was so special to me.
Reporter: Purely height wise, Yao Ming is as tall as Shawn Bradley; he is also one of the tallest guy in NBA. So have you ever thought of giving Yao Ming a dunk in the face, similar to the one you gave Shawn Bradley ?
T-Mac: (laughing heartily and shaking his head) No No No. I do not have this opportunity. We are on the same team.
Reporter: So what about during team training/practice? Have you tried to dunk on him ?
T-Mac: HAHAHA, that is even more unlikely, because we are always in the same team, as we are both starters.
Reporter: So during this summer, the Rockets has signed Stromile Swift and Derek Anderson in the free agent market and re-sign Mutombo and Jon Barry. What is your comment on these trades/transfers?
T-Mac: These are the best news I heard for this summer. I am extremely excited. Our management has made the right decision, and signed the players we most need.
Reporter: Last season, you played almost every position in the Rockets...from point guard to power forward. Now that the Rockets has introduced a great power forward (in Stromile Swift) as well as a point guard in Derek Anderson, does it mean that you will be more focused to play in the small forward position next season?
T-Mac: Yes. Last season, I've done so much on the court; I am willing to do all that. But I actually prefer playing in the small forward position. I will be able to concentrate more on that position next season. Of course, I will comply with whatever the team arranges. As long as our team can win, I am willing to do anything.
Reporter: You now have played for 3 different teams. In these 3 teams, you have unfolded 3 different kind of talents; In the Raptors, you were like "Sky Walker", a physical and strong dunker; with the Magic, you're a scoring machine; with the Rockets, as demonstrated in the playoff against Dirk Nowitzki, you played outstanding defense. So between that 3 roles: the dunker, the scoring machine and the tough defender, which one do you like most?
T-Mac: I like them all. It just showed that I am a complete player. I can dunk like a Sky Walker; I can score from the perimeter; and I can play tough defense. I can do all that in different games, different moment and different tactical requirement in order to help our team to win.
Reporter: Do you think putting those three roles together would be equivalent to a team leader in the making ?
T-Mac: Those three roles are the foundation of a leader. But leadership is something very difficult to explain clearly. On top of those 3 roles/conditions, probably as a leader, you would need to add on the determination and sense of responsibility to shoulder your team at the critical moment.
Reporter: Just like what you did in that 13-points-in-31-minutes miracle over the San Antonio Spurs last season ?
T-Mac: Exactly.
Reporter: What attracts you most in China? If you need, I'll give you 4 choices. 1. Great Wall 2. Chinese cuisines 3. Chinese kungfu 4. Yao Ming.
T-Mac: Needless to say, it has to be Yao Ming. Because we are teammates, and he is my buddy.
Reporter: Do you know what Yao Ming is up to now ?
T-Mac: I don't know. I have yet to contact him.
Reporter: There is rumours that in the next few years, you will come to China every year. Is that true?
T-Mac: I would hope so. But one thing is definite. I will come to China again next year, as the Rockets will come to play pre-season games in Beijing again.

Chinese NBA star Yao Ming has agreed to donate his stem cell to save leukaemia sufferers.
A nurse collects blood sample from NBA star Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets at an activity held in the Renmin University of China in Beijing September 4, 2005. Yao and students from ten Chinese universities took part in the event promoting the donation of hematopoietic stem cell, or bone marrow¡£ [newsphoto]
Yao, who had signed a five-year contract worth 76 million US dollars with Huston Rockets, went to People's University in Beijing to have the blood sample test on Sunday. Thus, Yao has become a volunteer of China's Marrow Center.
Luo Yang, one of Yao Ming's super fans, died of leukaemia last year at the age of 16. Dying Luo was eager to say a few words to Yao who was then competing in NBA. Yao made a phone call to Luo after a match and encouraged him to fight against the disease. Furthermore, Yao sent Luo 20,000 dollars.
Yao, who is in China preparing for the Asian Basketball Championship, said that if his blood sample matched, he would definitely donate his stem cell.
Up to July, 2005, China's Marrow Center has got 290,000 doses of stem cell. But the number of the patients waiting for the transplantation has reached one million in China
HOUSTON - The Houston Rockets have signed free agent forward Lonny Baxter to a contract, General Manager Carroll Dawson announced today. Terms of the agreement were not released per team policy.
The 6-foot-8, 260-pound forward has averaged 4.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.4 blocks in 121 career games with Chicago, Toronto, Washington and New Orleans. This past summer, Baxter participated in the Rockets summer league in Minnesota. Baxter averaged 21.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals in five games, helping Houston go undefeated in the contests.
Before being selected by the Bulls in the 2002 NBA Draft, Baxter played at Maryland for four years and was one of the key performers on the 2002 NCAA championship team.

1. Tracy McGrady, Houston:
Not that the top 10 names on this list aren't all uniquely blessed, but T-Mac is currently the most gifted and developed of the group. This is a guy who can drain 40-foot jumpers like water, get to the rim at will and finish at his whim. He has been doing all that over the past few seasons, but last year, becoming the leader of the Rockets under demanding Jeff Van Gundy, he grew into a complete player. For maybe the first time in his career, he cut no corners on defense, which wasn't hard to notice when he frustrated Dirk Nowitzki into poor outing after poor outing in the first round of the playoffs. Yes, he's failed to win a series, with his teams blowing substantial leads in his past two appearances, but to point the finger at him is not only short-sighted, it's far-fetched. Expect him to help push Yao Ming into the next stage of his development while guiding the Rockets to heights that haven't been reached since the days of "Dream." Houston is his town now, and he represents it well.
