Vs: Kouvot 2009-2010
Kas kummaa, vanhojen SLAM-lehtien valitseminen vessalukemiseksi kannattaa. Kuukausi sitten bongasin Ra'Sean Dickeyn, nyt vuorossa maaliskuun 2000 numerosta A.J. Moye:
East Point's greatest hit
"People at church tell me I have a gift", says A.J. Moye, senior sooting guard at westlake H.S. in East Point, GA. Though the congregation at Moye's is referring to his penchant for preaching from the pulpit, they could have been talking about Moye's 41-inch vertical leap. Or the 28 points Moye dropped on Gerald Wallace this summer at the ABCD Camp. Or Moye's dedication to his community.
Seeking a better path for her son, Moye's mom pushed him into basketball as a kid. "She didn't want me hanging out there with the rest of the guys on the corner", Moye says. "Also, people always said I was kinda husky, so she thought if I was active I might lose some weight." He eventually sprouted into his present 6-5, 218 pound frame.
As a freshman, Moye made his mark. "I came in and I was just killing guys", he recalls, "and my coach told me I was ging to put Westlake on the map and develop into one of the top seniors in the nation. I realized how good I could be, and I started working hard."
Moye carried Westlake to a 33-0 record last season and the state championship. But he's just as proud of his 4.0 gpa. Also, Moye spends his free time tutoring and mentoring kids at a local elementary school. Moye laughs when he says, "I'm just glad my mom made me play when I was little."
Maybe Mom knows best, after all.
